Godrevy
Back to normality and the regular Tuesday ride (oh how I have missed it and the scathing banter of the Christmas period). Slightly late leaving the house I bust a gut to make it over to Falmouth in time for the 9am start of the ride after our chiefs call to arms earlier in the week stressing tardiness would not be accepted (the banter begins). Puffing up the hill from Lidl arriving at Union Corner imagine my surprise to in fact be first to arrive with Mat turning up shortly after and the rest of the troops gathering soon after that a notable absence being that off the Mr Manser! Godrevy the destination we set off as a group of 7 soon to be joined by a couple more on the route out and eventually the Manser who having turned up late was playing catch up finally making contact with the group along the north cliffs. Our usual cafe of choice at Godrevy shut we headed on up to Trevaskis to take in some well needed sustenance (for a decaf drinker 2 ½ cups of the strong stuff certainly helped to get the legs going a little better on the way home). Joined at the cafe by another of the Tuesday gang and we were now up to a healthy number of 11 for our first outing of the year. Coffee, cake and chat over it was back on the road to Black Rock before saying cheerio to two of the group at the top with the rest of us heading on through Porkellis and Carnkie with another rider peeling off and heading back home Stithians way leaving 7 off of us for the run in back to Falmouth. Determined to make up somewhat for the battering I had taken on road up to this point I clung on to Tonys wheel for dear life with a much appreciated shove (cheers mate) at one point to keep me in touch to make it safe and sound back to Falmouth looking more like I had been racing Paris-Roubaix or as someone pointed out mud wrestling rather than riding a bike! All that remained was the post ride de-brief and affirmation of who is to buy the cake on the next ride and off we all went to wend our ways back home which for me was at a much more sedate pace.
TOP TIP: On rides when you know there will be cafe stops consider taking a spare base layer wrapped in a plastic bag with you. You can then put on a fresh dry layer when you stop helping you stay warm for the stop and also heading out for the second part of the ride. However as a note of caution choose your plastic bag carefully as it is sure to endure close scrutiny by fellow riders and sweeping social stereotyping!!
A very long shower and a large amount of grub later it was a case of getting the worst of the dirt off my kit before sticking it through the washer and then I was off again to see website extraordinaire Sharon. After another few hours of work the website is now pretty much done and dusted for the mean time at least it was then just a matter of a few tweaks to the business card and letterhead design and job done. If you like the look of my site Mrs S is the brains and design behind it all and has had the patience of a saint working with my complete lack of design vision and at times indecision! Thanks Mrs S you’re a STAR.
